| Abstract: | Background: This study investigates the influence of electronic information resources (EIR) availability, utilization, and environmental factors on the research productivity of lecturers in specialized universities in Northern Nigeria, addressing concerns about low research output despite access to digital tools. Method: A quantitative research design was adopted, testing three null hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. The population comprised 3,827 lecturers from 11 public and private specialized universities. A simple random sampling technique selected 400 lecturers, with data collected via a self-developed questionnaire rated on a 4-point scale. Of the 400 questionnaires distributed, 352 were returned (88% response rate). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis to test the hypotheses. Findings/Results: All three null hypotheses were rejected, indicating that the availability and use of EIR, along with environmental factors, significantly and positively influenced lecturers’ research productivity. These factors were critical in enhancing academic output. Implications: Improved access to digital resources and supportive research environments can significantly boost scholarly performance, highlighting the need for investment in infrastructure and institutional policies. Conclusion: The availability and utilization of electronic information resources, combined with conducive environmental factors, significantly enhance research productivity among lecturers in specialized universities in Northern Nigeria. Recommendations: University library management should foster a conducive research environment by improving access to electronic resources and implementing policies, such as "publish or perish," to motivate consistent research output among lecturers. |
