Abstract: Elliptic filters offer steeper rolloff characteristics than Butterworth or Chebyshev filter, but are equiripple in both the passband and stopbands. Digital filter design depends on whether its specifications are given in frequency or time domain. and also om whether its impulse response is of finite or infinite duration. Excelllent design methods for digital filters are available in the literature based on the design specification Ajose et al., {2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14}. Notable earlier works includes; Gold [7] who proposed design techniques for digital filters using frequency domain. Daniel [5] later presented his work that included the time domains. Gray [8], combined these works together by proposing a general computer program for designing elliptic filters. Dehner [6] implemented a general program for IIR filters. This work is aimed at designing and simulating an elliptic bandpass filter in the frequency band 60-108 kHz using IIR method. The work has significantly better computational efficiency and it requires less coefficient than FIR to achieve the same stability.
