Abstract: | Furfuraldehyde (furfural) C4H3OCHO, a liquid organic compound whose boiling point is 161.70C aldehyde, is well known among the industrialists. The source of furfural in Nigeria has been through importation from cither Arabian countries or Venezuela (William and Dunlop, 1993). Aribisala (1993) found out that furfural is ict to be produced in Nigeria. It is in line with this that the paper investigates the production of furfural from an abundantly available local material, typical corncob, which is normally. regarded an agricultural by-product. The process consists of a single stage acid digestion, followed by steam distillation. From the analysis. 500um particle size gave the highest yield percent at a retention time of 60 minutes. |
