| Abstract: | Medication non-adherence remains a global healthcare problem, causing suboptimal patient outcomes, increased healthcare costs, and progression of disease, particularly among patients with chronic diseases. Traditional adherence monitoring systems have failed, thus the quest for technological innovations. This paper reports on a proposed smart medicine dispenser system, utilizing IoT-based sensors, microcontrollers, and a camera module to achieve better adherence through accurate, real-time monitoring of medication ingestion. The system incorporates user detection, drug dispensing, and ingestion verification by visual recognition, thereby tackling current shortcomings of existing technologies. The system is intended for home use, particularly among elderly patients or patients with cognitive impairment, with adaptive reminders, caregiver notification, and power efficiency. The research, through the system deployment, aims to enhance adherence to medication, patient outcomes, and reduce healthcare burdens through the provision of an effective, scalable, and user-friendly system. The system's success is to be measured by adherence rates, reliability, missed dose rates, and usability, demonstrating its ability to address one of healthcare's biggest challenges. |
