| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT The persistent farmers-herders conflict in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State has caused serious disruptions to agricultural activities and rural livelihoods. This paper investigates the impact of the conflict on food production, land use, and the overall sustainability of the agricultural industry in the region. The frequent clashes between farmers and herders have led to the destruction of farmland, reduced crop yields, displacement of rural populations, and increased tension among communities. These conflicts threaten not only local food security but also the socioeconomic development of the area. The paper sets out to identify and analyze the key effects of the farmers-herders conflict in the Rafi Local Government Area. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, utilizing structured questionnaires and oral interviews to gather data from affected farmers, herders, and relevant local stakeholders. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed to interpret the data and understand the depth of the conflict's impact on agriculture. Findings revealed that the ongoing conflict has significantly undermined agricultural productivity, disrupted economic activities, and created an atmosphere of insecurity. The paper suggests the urgent need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms and the implementation of sustainable land use and resource management policies. These are critical steps toward restoring peace and agricultural stability in the region. | en_US |
