Abstract: Land as a resource is fixed in supply but its demand for various uses is variable and on the increase as human population keeps on increasing. This explains why efficient land administration is central to socio-economic development of any nation. This paper presents an overview of Surveying and Mapping in sustainable land administration systems vis-à-vis its relevance in socio-economic development of Nigeria. Therefore, a comprehensive discussion of the concept of land administration systems was attempted, in view of this; a prototype land information system was developed. The engineering and scientific applications of surveying and mapping in solving both human and socio economic problems were identified. In conclusion, the paper stressed the need to accord surveying the rightful place and priority in the national development programme.
