Abstract: Carbon nanotubes were synthesized through chemical vapor deposition of acetylene using Co-Mo/MgO as a catalyst The synthesis was conducted in a horizontal CVD reactor at reaction temperature 750 °C for 45 minutes. The impregnation method applied in this study successfully deposed Co-Mo metal component on the MgO support surface Yield as much as 218% of Multiwalled Walled Carbon Nanotubes was obtained with BET surface area of 289m²/g. The average length and diameter were found to be 33µm and 32nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), along with the results from xray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the successful formation of MWNTs. The study has demonstrated that high quality MWNTs can be obtained from MgO supported catalyst via wet impregnation followed by CVD technique.
