Abstract: | Asurvey of the mycofora of Symodontis oellifer, clarias anguilaris and Schilbe mystus from Tagwai lake, Minna, Nigeria was carried out for three months (June to July, 2008). The fungi were isolated from three selected parts of the fish body namely, gill, skin and tail. Microbial species, mostly members of mould group, were encountered in three fish species. The relative distribution of the fungi species in the different parts of the three fish types were similar and the total number of fungal species per fish type were not significantly different (p>0.05). reasons were advanced for these results and the implications highlighted. It was concluded that fungal infestation is prevalent in the fish species sampled in Tagwai lake and that the three (3) fish species sampled were equally susceptible to fungal infestation. |
