Abstract: the neighbourhood and its impact on the socio-cultural characteristics of the affected buildings in two selected local government areas of Ibadan. Three major socio-culture components; housing transformation component, Neighbourhood environment and urban services management, were employed for the study. A total of three hundred households were randomly selected from two local governments. Each of the two selected local governments were subdivided into three clustered neighbourhoods and questionnaires were administered to three hundred households in the six clustered neighbourhoods. The data obtained from the survey were analysed in two stages; first, was the use of descriptive analysis to assess the general perception of the residents on the housing transformation and second, was the use of relative Importance Indices (RII) to determine the impact with each of the socio-cultural components identified for the study. The study shows that even though housing transformation among the individual houses were initiated for different purposes the absence of input from architects, planners and physical development control authority is evidenced in the manner in which these transfromations were carried out despite its impact on the socio-culture of the residents. The study, therefore, suggests the need for housing transformation control and monitoring strategy for socio-cultural specific housing transformation to be achieved in the study area.
