Transportation Modes and their Implications for Distribution Efficiency of Leafy Vegetables in Minna Metropolis, Nigeria.

Title: Transportation Modes and their Implications for Distribution Efficiency of Leafy Vegetables in Minna Metropolis, Nigeria.
Authors: Anozie, Regina Nkechinyere; Owoeye, Adelanke Samuel
Abstract: Efficient transport minimises post-harvest losses and improves market access for perishable leafy vegetables in rapidly urbanising Nigerian cities like Minna. However, empirical evidence on how transport mode choice affects distribution efficiency in medium-sized Nigerian cities remains limited. This study examines transport modes used in leafy vegetable distribution in Minna Metropolis and their implications for distribution efficiency. This was assessed using a mixed-method approach involving both objective and subjective measures in order to triangulate findings and improve analytical validity. Combining direct operational measurements with respondents perceived experiences helped to provide a more comprehensive understanding of transportation implications on leafy vegetable distribution efficiency in Minna. A descriptive survey design was used, collecting primary data from farmers and distributors via questionnaires, observations, and interviews across major distribution corridors. Findings show that transport is dominated by informal, low-capacity modes motorcycles (51%) and tricycles (41%), preferred due to availability (32%), load capacity (22%), affordability (18%), and accessibility (17%). Most distribution occurs over short distances, with over half of respondents travelling less than 2 km to market. While flexible and accessible, these modes constrain delivery speed, load consolidation, and product preservation, reducing distribution efficiency. Key constraints include poor road conditions (28%), produce damage during transit (17%), and transport delays (11%). The study concludes that informal transport systems provide critical last-mile connectivity between farms and urban markets but are inadequate for efficient, large‑volume distribution of highly perishable vegetables. Recommendations include improving feeder road infrastructure, increasing access to appropriate intermediate vehicles, and developing coordinated short‑haul agricultural transport systems to enhance distribution efficiency and reduce post‑harvest losses in Minna Metropolis.

Title: Job Satisfaction and Work Attitude in Bakery Enterprises: A Proposed Model
Authors: Abdulazeez, Falilat Olubukola; Babayomi, Festus Aderopo; Ochepa, Abdulhafeez Abubakar; Abubakar, Ahmed Musa
Abstract: Employee job satisfaction and attitude to work is of paramount importance in ensuring the wellbeing of any business venture. Organisations have however, invested highly on human resource development and management, towards achieving organisational success through satisfied employees. Despite this special
efforts, there is still high record of job dissatisfaction and poor work attitude among employees. This study therefore, adopt a systematic review of relevant literature on the effect of employee job satisfaction on work attitude in bakery enterprises. Moreover, the study proposed to contribute to knowledge by advancing research in the area of job satisfaction and work attitude of employees, particularly among bakery enterprises. Literature revealed that work environment, work condition and remuneration, all influence employee’s work attitude in an organization. However, it was hypothesized that work environment, work condition and remuneration have no significant effects on employee’s work attitude among employees of bakery enterprises. Furthermore, a conceptual framework was proposed. The study however, recommends that empirical research be conducted to validate the predictive model developed in the study.

SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT AND ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION IN NIGERIA: A CRITICAL REVIEW

Title: SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT AND ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION IN NIGERIA: A CRITICAL REVIEW
Authors: Ochepa, Abdulhafeez Abubakar; Usman, Umar; Zinghry, Hassan Barau; Mallo, Josiah Mangai
Abstract: With increasing awareness of the role of entrepreneurship as a key in a comprehensive economic development framework, researchers in recent years have focused attention on it with a view to discovering the factors that promote its development. Previous studies have discovered that the first major step in the promotion of entrepreneurship is the formation of the intention to be an entrepreneur. It has also been shown that entrepreneurial intention is influenced by environmental factors. Since most of the attention in previous studies had been given to environmental factors such as economic, political and psychological factors with little attention given to social environment, this study, therefore, examines the effects of social environment on entrepreneurial intention in Nigeria. The study is guided by three objectives which centered around the major
components of social environment- education, family background and social network, and the effects that these components have on entrepreneurial intention. Adopting a critical review of literature methodology, the study hypothesized that, education, family background and social network of an individual, all play significant roles in the formation of entrepreneurial intention and should therefore be given adequate attentions in order to promote the formation of entrepreneurial behaviour needed for the economic growth in Nigeria. It is however, recommended that an empirical study be conducted to confirm the hypotheses stated in this study.

EFFECT OF WOMEN BUSINESS LEADERSHIP ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF NORTHERN NIGERIA

Title: EFFECT OF WOMEN BUSINESS LEADERSHIP ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF NORTHERN NIGERIA
Authors: Dauda, Abdulwaheed A.; Ochepa, Abdulhafeez Abubakar; Yakubu, Mustapha M.
Abstract: Women entrepreneurship is synonymous to societal empowerment. The importance of women business leadership on economic growth is grossly underestimated by many despite the fact they create income and jobs, which can help people reduce poverty and gain socioeconomic and political power. However, women in Northern Nigeria despite the endemic poverty challenges have continued to transform the economic and social fabric of the region. This study therefore examines the impact of women business leadership of small and medium scale enterprises on economic development of Northern Nigeria. The researcher employed descriptive survey method and questionnaire was the major instrument of data collection. From a population of 3700 registered women business enterprises, a sample size of three hundred and twenty five (325) respondents was
drawn using Taro Yamane’s technique at 5% error of tolerance and 95% level of confidence. Three research questions were posed and same was hypothesized to test their validity. The study utilizes simple regression to analyze the data. Findings revealed that women leadership ventures in Northern Nigeria contributes significantly towards the economic development of the region in the three dimensions of wealth creation, employment generation and poverty reduction. It is thus, recommended that an enabling environment be created by government at all levels in the component states of the region for women entrepreneurship to thrive and ensure job creation. Government at all levels should establish a supporting and favourable environment for women entrepreneurial leadership to thrive because of their population strength as this will ensure wealth creation thereby leading to economic development. This could be done by influencing lending terms of financial institutions in favour of women in business, relaxing socio-cultural barriers to women involvement in entrepreneurship and emplacing favourable tax practices.
