Abstract: Well-designed and thermally comfortable educational environments significantly enhance academic&#xD;
performance, concentration, and general well-being. The thermal conditions within these spaces are&#xD;
closely linked to students’ learning outcomes and health. In tropical Nigeria, rising temperatures, particularly&#xD;
during the dry season, have negatively affected the thermal comfort of educational facilities.&#xD;
Architecture students, who spend considerable time in design studios, often encounter uncomfortable&#xD;
thermal conditions intensified by climate change and insufficient design considerations. This research&#xD;
explored how thermal comfort influences students’ productivity and well-being, aiming to enhance&#xD;
students’ academic performance and physical, mental, and social health. A structured questionnaire was&#xD;
distributed to 185 architecture students, and 171 responses were collected for analysis. Descriptive and&#xD;
inferential statistical methods were employed to evaluate the data at different research levels. The results&#xD;
reveal that environmental factors such as temperature, ventilation, and humidity impact productivity,&#xD;
performance, and concentration levels. Lower temperatures, especially during the harmattan season, may&#xD;
improve the performance. Ventilation and air quality also affect performance, but the concentration is&#xD;
situation-dependent. The study concludes that insufficient thermal comfort adversely affects productivity,&#xD;
contributing to psychological challenges and decreased student performance. It is recommended that&#xD;
architects adopt design features that ensure proper ventilation and incorporate passive design strategies&#xD;
to enhance the thermal quality of learning spaces.

Abstract: The waiting area has an influence on patients and their companions and plays an&#xD;
important role in accessing medical services. Research suggests that hospitals are&#xD;
stressful environments, with high levels of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety. While the&#xD;
impact of healing and therapeutic features on patients’ in waiting areas of healthcare settings is known in Western cultures and contexts, there has been little or no&#xD;
research focused on the therapeutic features in waiting areas, particularly in Nigeria. This present study examined the perceptions of the features of therapeutic waiting areas and their effects on patients’ hospital experience, stress, and perceived&#xD;
relaxation. A survey questionnaire was employed to collect data from patients and&#xD;
their companions at two hospitals in North Central, Nigeria about their perceptions&#xD;
of therapeutic features in the waiting areas. The data were analysed using standard&#xD;
statistical methods. The results from this study demonstrated the significant importance of having well-designed waiting areas/rooms equipped with appropriate furniture in healthcare settings for the comfort of patients’s and carers. Additionally,&#xD;
views of nature, waiting areas with easy access to natural greenery, the presence of&#xD;
large windows, and calming and relaxing colours were identified as features that&#xD;
improve visual connection to nature and increased positive feelings and moods.&#xD;
The study, the first in a series of waiting room studies in Nigeria, provides valuable&#xD;
insights that can be useful for designing waiting areas in healthcare facilities. It&#xD;
also has the potential for fostering comfortable waiting areas for the wellbeing of&#xD;
patients and users in healthcare environments

Abstract: The study investigated exposure to noise, mental performance and emotional wellbeing of students. Two simultaneous field experiments were performed each day for five days. At each experiment, 30 students performed mathematics and English language task in a quiet 38dBA classroom named, ExposureI(ExpI). Simultaneously, another 30 students performed the same mathematics and English language task in a noisy 75dBA classroom, named ExposureII (ExpII). After the tasks were performed, the students were asked to to rate their perceptions of annoyance and task dificulty with respect to the noise levels in the two expermental classrooms. Independent sample t-test and Welch’s test were used to analyse the data. Results from the data analysis showed that, in comparison to ExpI(38dBA),the performance of mental task related to mathematics was signficantly affected in ExpII (75dBA).There was no signfcant effect found in the mental performnce related to English language task between ExpI(38dBA) and ExpII(75dBA). Furthermore, the results from this study show that the students were signficantly annoyed in classroom with a noise level of 75dBA. Lastly, the results from this study suggests that mental tasks can be much difficult in noisy classrooms. The findings from this study highlight the critical need for architects and policy makers to prioritize acoustic considerations in school design and renovation.

Abstract: As resources become increasingly scarce, the importance of effective project management has&#xD;
grown, particularly to prevent project failures and resource wastage. This is especially relevant&#xD;
in Nigeria, where public project management tools and procedures are often underutilized. This&#xD;
study investigates the underlying causes of construction project failures in Nigeria, with a focus&#xD;
on public sector projects. Using a quantitative research approach, data was gathered through a&#xD;
survey of l15 built environment professionals (BEPs) with experience in public projects in&#xD;
Niger state. The results indicate that the most critical factors affecting project success are&#xD;
related to human resources, planning, and implementation. Among the human resource factors&#xD;
payment delays due to government bureaucracy were identified as the most significant, severally&#xD;
disrupting project timelines and contractor efficiency. In terms of planning. scope&#xD;
without corresponding budget adjustments emerged as a major in issue, underscoring the need for &#xD;
accurate budgeting. Inadequate monitoring were highlighted das the mu&#xD;
implementation challenges, pointing to the necessity for stronger o oversight and quality control&#xD;
Overall, human factors were deemed the most critical, with all related 7sub-factors rate on &#xD;
The paper concludes that addressing these key areas can significantly enhance&#xD;
management practices in Nigeria, reducing the frequency  for project failures and&#xD;
use of resources and optimizing
